Your pit dragon fanart is the best I've found for the series so far. Keep up the great work!

With that splotch, she reminds me of Sssasha. :)

I'm midway through the last one right now. Can't wait to see how it ends, though I wish she had done better describing Heart's Blood's children. I don't even know what color they are, just that Sssasha has that yellow streak which would have made her a cull rather than a beauty dragon. She did a better job of describing Libertas and Mighty Mo, and they each only get a few lines about hem.

Yes, you're right. Sometimes the books lack in descriptions. But otherwise when I open one of the books and start reading I've got always the feeling that I can step through a door into this strange and beautiful world Jane Yolen has created. However, she did a great job and I love these books. :3 They're so inspiring.
Btw: Do you mean with "last one" the third book or the fourth one?

4th one, Dragon's Heart. I just finished it last night.. and finally found out what color Sssargon is, but the base colors of his sisters remain a mystery.

I agree that for the most part her descriptions are wonderful, but there are just a few points, like with the 5 dragons who feature so prominently in the 3rd and 4th books, but have hardly any physical description, compared to once-offs like Mighty Mo who got lavishly described during the fight with poor S'Blood. I have similar problems with White Jenna and Sister Light, Sister Dark. Most of each book is very sound, but then a few scenes(not even consecutive ones) lack in detail, like there was another author or a heavy-handed editor.

I haven't read any other books by Jane Yolen, so I can't really tell you my opinion about it. Maybe it's a characteristic of her style of writing or - as you said - her editor. Or she wants to leave some gaps in her descriptions to encourage the reader imagine the dragons himself. But in the end I totally agree with you: I like detailed descriptions more, not least because I like to draw the characters :3
